National forest sites around the lake
The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit published the dates its campgrounds, beaches, trailheads and visitor center close for winter. National forest land stays open year-round, but parking and services become limited.

Prescribed burn planned in Baldwin Meadow
Baldwin Meadow, near Baldwin Beach, north of SR 89
The Forest Service plans a 40-acre understory burn in Baldwin Meadow, starting sometime between Oct 1 and Oct 25, 2026, pending approvals and conditions. Work may continue through fall and winter.

The City announces Restaurant Week, Nov 6 to 15

The City is running a Restaurant Week from Nov 6 through Nov 15, 2026, to promote local restaurants. Restaurants inside the city must register by Oct 16 to take part.

Tahoe Valley Greenbelt project is complete
South and east of the Y
The City marked the completion of the Tahoe Valley Stormwater and Greenbelt Improvement Project with a ribbon cutting on Sep 25. The project pairs stormwater treatment with a multipurpose trail and naturalized play structures next to The Crossing Shopping Center.

Sierra-at-Tahoe adds weekend and holiday parking reservations

For its 80th season, Sierra-at-Tahoe is adding a parking reservation system on weekends and holiday periods. Reservations are free for passholders and for cars with four or more people, and $25 for cars with three or fewer.

El Dorado Beach and Lakeview Commons closed for shoreline work
Lakeview Commons and El Dorado Beach
Phase 2 of the City's El Dorado Beach Revetment and Improvement Project began Sep 8 and is scheduled to finish by Oct 15, 2026. During construction, El Dorado Beach, Lakeview Commons, the boat ramp and its parking lot are closed.

Pioneer Trail closed to northbound traffic through Oct 2
Pioneer Trail, Larch Avenue to Ski Run Boulevard
Pioneer Trail is closed to northbound and eastbound traffic through Oct 2 for the City's Pioneer Trail Pedestrian Improvements Phase II work. Southbound traffic can still get through, with delays.

Emerald Bay State Park
State Parks says Eagle Point Campground and the Boat-In Campground have closed for the 2026 season, and Vikingsholm tours ended for the year on Sep 30.

New residential vacation rental permits go to a waitlist

Starting Aug 21, 2026, the City is placing new vacation home rental permit applications in residential zones on a waitlist, as issued permits approach the 900-permit cap set by the ordinance that took effect April 23, 2026.

Heavenly and Kirkwood
Vail Resorts lists Nov 20 as Heavenly's planned opening day and Dec 4 for Kirkwood. Both dates are subject to change based on weather and conditions.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit proposed new fees at several sites that are free today, and higher fees at others. These are proposals, not current prices. The public comment period ended Sep 29, 2026.
